RoMay SitzeCase Study on Carl Robins Essay A recruiter’s job is to help a company or organization find new talent; they are also responsible for making sure that all new hires have completed all paperwork and maintain an ethical relationship with department heads. Introduction This case study will evaluate the performance of Carl Robins, a new campus recruiter for ABC, Inc. With only having six months experience, he failed to organize, follow-up, and reserve a room to train the 15 people he successfully recruited. The new trainees will be working for Monica Carrolls, the Operations Supervisor. Carl has been procrastinating, failing to meet the required deadline for a new hire orientation that will take place on June 15. The new employees require an orientation on company policy, manuals to learn the required policies, physicals, and drug screenings, and other issues that may arise as time whines down. On May 15, Carl was contacted by Monica and he assured her that everything was a go for that particular date and things were running as scheduled. After Memorial Day, Carl realized that the new trainees’ applications were not complete, their transcripts were not on file, and none of them had been sent for mandatory drug screening. Carl also found Joe from technology services reserved the training room for the whole month of June for computer training seminars, leaving Carl with nowhere for his orientation. Key Problems It is very clear that there is a lack of proper follow-up resulting in problems with drug screening and proper paperwork being filed, along with several issues with scheduling of assets and availability of training materials. Carl’s performance seems that he is not fully trained or inexperienced to complete the orientation of new employees with ABC, Inc. Before Carl started recruiting he did not have a plan in place for or after he met his goal of recruiting 15 new people for the company he is working  for. Being that this is his first recruitment effort, he was only focused on getting new hires in the door to show that he was capable of performing his duties as a new campus recruiter, rather than the bigger picture of what will happen after the new recruits were hired. He did not take in consideration all the elements involved with the hiring and training of the new hires; like making sure all documents were up-to-date prior to hiring. Carl has poor working ethics and there fore is incompetent in his job. He is also disorganized and doesn’t meet deadline goals. It appears that Carl was not involved or presence during the whole process of hiring new employees, allowing them to be hired without completing required documents, drug testing, and other issues that problems that are happening. Carl jeopardized the entire orientation because the lack of experience he has and the manner in which nothing was followed up or secured in a timely manner. He also was not involved with checking or ensuring the training room was reserved. It seems that he was depending on other sources to make sure the training room was available for the entire month of June. Alternatives There are a few alternatives to the dilemma Carl has put himself in. The first alternative is to postpone the orientation for another month or until Carl can secure the training room and have all the training materials in place. He will need to contact each new employee and have them come in to complete the required paperwork, hoping the potential trainees may not seek employment elsewhere, and are ready to start working in July. He will then be able to contact the drug testing center to schedule the employees’ drug screening prior to the orientation date. Carl needs to also meet with Monica Carrolls and report the discrepancies and then find a strategy for planning a successful orientation. The second alternative would be to keep the orientation as scheduled and work with other co-workers asking for any suggestions that will help, such as senior recruiters that are better equipped for the job. They will work together in finding ways to accommodate the new employees with their applications, drug testing, and anything missing from their files. All the employees in the company should work together on different projects, where at least one of the projects is one in which they are competent in and one in which they think they will be able to produce more efficiently because of their competencies or interest. Carl  needs to get a policy handbook and make copies so that every new employee has their own copy of rules and regulations so they are ready to start working by July. The team will also help with finding another location for holding the orientation; calling hotels that have conference rooms or locate restaurants that are available for June 15. With finding another location there may be a rental fee that Carl may have to come out of pocket for being that he did not follow through with reassuring the training room would be available. After the location has been found, Carl will need to contact his new trainees about the changes affecting the orientation. Proposed Solution Carl knew the deadline for new hires to enter the orientation, he should have ensured all documents were complete prior to hiring. This will ensure all records are up-to-date before the training process is to take place. Carl should check all manuals; making sure there is enough to go around; preparing himself for the orientation. Each new trainee should have been scheduled for their individual physicals and drug screenings immediately; making sure that everyone is exact on times and dates. Once the results are back, reviewed, and approved for hire, notifying the trainees. Carl had the entire month of May to schedule the training room, he should have immediately scheduled the training room. Since the training room was already booked, he should have then found another conference room within the company or rented another conference room within the area. Recommendations I recommend Carl postpone the orientation until the following month. This will give him enough time to schedule each trainees’ drug testing and make sure everyone’s paperwork is up-to-date and on the proper file. This will also give him enough time to find other replacements if there is any discrepancies with the prior trainees. It will also give him time to do the proper follow-ups if needed. Time management is the key to success and is an important aspect in being a recruiter especially when a crisis occurs; there is more procrastinating than actual work being done. I also recommend that Carl go through intensive training as well. One way ABC, Inc., can improve employee performance is by using more effective and efficient performance management programs. Carl needs to master his ability to work on his own and go through the proper channels to ensure this will never happen again.  This will give him the knowledge into how to properly train and how to complete personn el files on his own. He will also learned how to become better organized and to correctly find solutions when faced with situations that jeopardize the completion of another orientation in the near future. Carl should be fully aware of all the recruiting processes and see that all steps are followed properly. When all else fails, he should also consider sitting down with Monica Carroll to review the expectations of his position, including performances, protocol, and other duties pertaining to the recruitment requirements. I would use this situation as a learning experience and move forward, knowing that having a panic attack will not solve the issue. I would also recommend that when the training room is booked, be prepared to either find another room within the company or have another location available. Having a Plan B will show that he is prepared for the worst scenarios. In conclusion, Carl’s procrastination and lack of experience may have played a major part in the results of not having completed a successful orientation. Being responsible for every aspect of bringing new trainees on-board to making sure all follow-ups are done in a time manner and completed will become vita l for a company’s success and growth. Better employees will be attracted to ABC, Inc. if there were more experienced personnel able to handle all and any situations that may arise.

Those Winter Sundays Analysis The poem, which I selected for analyzing and interpreting, is Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden. The question raised by the author has been attracting the readers for a long time, since it deals with a situation which most of people have experienced at least once in their lives. The authors language and artistic devices by which he transmits the idea that people often pay little attention to good deeds and kind attitude especially when they has become a part of somebodys routine leave a really strong impression, often making the reader stop and re-think his attitude towards some events in his or her life. In this poem the author recollects memories from his childhood, when his father rose before dawn to kindle the fire in order to warm their hose on winter morning. Hayden skillfully uses deep and powerful imagery to convey his emotions, not giving direct statements but letting the reader to surmise what was implied in the lines therefore making a bright and living picture of that event in his or her mind. Those Winter Sundays honors a much-criticized figure in American culture of the 1990s the withdrawn, emotionally inexpressive and distant (and probably unhappy and angry) father. The poem makes its way towards perceiving the emotional life of such a man. The poem realizes love as it lived in such a man (Goldstein and Chrisman 254). Beginning with the phrase Sundays too my father got up early the author indicates that his father got up early not only on Sundays, but during the whole week also, thus giving the image of a hard-working man, who though having a day off gives up his opportunity to have a rest for the sake of his family. Hayden also emphasizes that the man has got cracked hands that ached from labour in the weekday, making the reader to feel a little more drama and sympathy for his father. Te author sums up the first stanza with a simple literal line No one ever thanked him, therefore accomplishing splendidly his image of a caring man who shows a real regard for his family every day, but no one appreciates that. In the second stanza the speaker describes what he did, while his father performed his morning routine. The reader sees a little boy lying in his bed, reluctant to get up and waiting for the cold to stand away. The second line here also gives an important detail: When the rooms were warm hed call, one more time showing the fathers regard for the boy. However, the last line of this stanza may seem a bit puzzling: Fearing the chronic angers of that house. Such a phrase may imply various meanings. Without knowing the background of this verse it is hard to judge about what the author meant by these words. Of course there is a possibility that chronic angers relate to the house itself and living in poverty the boy does not love his home. But knowing the authors biography, especially the facts about his living in the atmosphere of fights and quarrels in the foster family, one can rather incline to the thought that the boy neither liked his house nor his father, therefore never noticing goo d qualities of his foster parent and care towards him even when they were displayed. In the third stanza Hayden refers to one more sign of regard from his father and polished my good shoes as well. Along with that he gives his own respond to such situation: Speaking indifferently to him, thus admitting ungrateful ignorance from his own side. In the final lines of the third stanza the speaker asks a rhetorical question: What did I know, what did I know/of loves austere and lonely offices? Hayden indicates that being a child he did not understand love often rather expresses itself indirectly, through help and care hidden in actions rather than through any kind of demonstrative expression such as words or embraces, which are commonly considered to be a real sign of love and care. One may suppose, that in his childhood, being a bit more selfish than now, like all children do and having little experience the speaker felt only negative energy that belonged to the house and paid no attention to his fathers effort to warm the house and polish the boys shoes. What is more the last two lines of the poem may also explain that the boys childhood was rather unhappy anyway, that is why he did not know much about love and was not able to appreciate it discerning it in his fathers routine. Containing traditional fourteen lines, this verse is an example of a sonnet, though the lines lack a reliable rhythm. There still are some rhymes and near-rhymes but no rhyme scheme. Though one should not omit that fact that the sonnet was written at the time when free verse was really popular in the Anglo-American literature. A kind of hidden alliteration is also implied by Hayden, such as the k sounds in the words ached,cracked, blueback and so on. In some way it adds elements of pain to the general atmosphere of the verse, especially if one takes the phrase cracked hands that ached. Gradually, the k sounds are replaced by the o sounds, like in the words good, shoes, know, love, offices etc. These drawling sounds evoke associations with love and loneliness. Therefore, along with the impression which the reader gained from the poem by reading the speakers narration of the event, the reader also perceives the same story by sonic means. The noise of this poem moves us through its emot ional journey from discomfort to lonely life (Goldstein and Chrisman 252). The author establishes a pensive and regretful tone almost from the very beginning. Even the heading Those Winter Sundays evokes an image of cold and often cloudy days, therefore producing a feeling of sadness and melancholy. Hayden introduces cold and uncomfortable images, like blueback cold to strengthen the picture of undesirable conditions of the unheated house. Hayden aids the initial tone of regret by sharing with the reader an image of the fathers cracked hands. All these means help the reader to realize clearly the main idea of the poem. The poems thesis is that the office of love can be relentless, thankless, and more than a little mysterious (Goldstein and Chrisman 252). All in all, this sonnet leaves a deep impression and induces to re-think the way in which we treat sometimes people who care for us. Therefore, one can learn a good lesson from it: there are times when a person simply does not see the love expressed indirectly, thus staying indifferent and ungrateful towards the person who does have a regard for him or her.

Why is it important for the school to concern itself with children's social and emotional development? Examine ways in which this could be attempted. In light of the current climate and the pressure on schools to improve standards, it may seem a strange question to ask. However it is such a fundamental issue that it is not only important but also vital for the school to concern itself with children's social and emotional development. This duty is now no longer an option. The aims of the National Curriculum as set out in the1988 Education Reform Act states that a school's curriculum should: "promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society." (Kyriacou,1995)(p.18) Before elucidating on this question, it is important to know exactly what is meant by social and emotional development. Daniel Goldman defines 'Emotional Intelligence' as an ability firstly to understand why we behave the way we do and secondly to control those actions that are inappropriate to the situation. It is also the ability to empathise and understand the emotions of others (Goldman 1996). Hence, the ultimate aim in this area with regards to child rearing is for a well-balanced and centred human being. The majority of people also generally accept that to have been loved and accepted unconditionally by just one other human being, as a child is enough for them to grow to be normal and well balanced adults. It is therefore very clear that parents have a large influence over this area of development. So, why should schools concern themselves with the social and emotional development of children? Bandura, one of the main exponents of social learning theories argues that there has been an underestimation of the importance of modelling, particularly with regards to learning social skills (Fontana, 1988). Children have a great tendency to imitate the behaviour of others. This imitation tends to be of people who enjoy status and standing. This starts with parents first. It then includes outside people such as teachers who in the majority of cases for children are the first outside relationship that holds a position of authority. Teachers act as role models for children. It is not so much what a teacher tells a child but more the way he/she behaves towards the child that has the influence. Bandura held that children learn social behaviour through social contacts. In particular he made a study of aggression. He showed how children who were exposed to adult aggression, were more likely to become aggressive themselves. It was not the fact that these children were exposed to aggression but the fact that the aggressive behaviour seemed to be sanctioned by the adults.

After five years of graduation I can see myself in the field of Interior Design has gained experience and skill of the engineering office I work in so that I could gain fame, expertise and experience in practical life and give me the ability to incision my own way. For example ,it is possible to start with working in engineering office where I can gain mon ey and fans to start my own project and built my way.Ten years after graduation I will be able to open my own project either a partnership or personal project in this field and the prosecution of all new and all developments in the field of Interior design. For example, I can begin the project by partnership with a compatriot or with a businessman who can support me by the money than I work to develop and increase the expertise of employees in the office and choose the best engineers to work on to get the trust of customers to spread fame office at the level of the capital and then at the level of the whole state to become one of the best office interior design.After twenty year after graduation I could see myself reaching my real goal which is managing my owe big and famous company of decoration . For example, I will build a company in the manufacturing of furniture and everything that have a relished to decoration with unique design from the best designers around the world with ne w innovations and unfamiliar. To conclude my talk i think that if the person worked hard in collage to gain a lot and learn a lot and support his goals by determination and hard work can turn its goals from just a targets into reality.

How Hamlet Changes Throughout the Play

The changes in Hamlet's personality are reflected in his changes in costume. At first, there is the Hamlet in the â€Å"nighted colour†, in mourning for his father and resentful of his mother and uncle. This is Hamlet in Act one. He is passive and reactive, making snarky remarks under his breath and behind the king's back but being sullen and unresponsive in his presence. After the visit of the Ghost, Hamlet changes. Ophelia describes his costume as â€Å"his doublet all unbraced, no hat upon his head, his stockings fouled and down-gyved to his ankle. This is Hamlet of the antic disposition. His pretense of insanity gives him the liberty to sharpen his wit on the various spies which come to sound him out. He becomes more active, arranging for and essentially directing the play The Murder of Gonzago, but he is a perfectionist, and cannot see his way to killing Claudius without the circumstances being just right. He thinks he has got them right but he is wrong–it's Polonius behind the arras and not Claudius. Then he is sent to England. He discovers that Claudius is not going to wait for the perfect opportunity, but has already made arrangements to have Hamlet killed. He changes again. He arranges for the deaths of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, and when the pirates attack, he takes the opportunity to board their ship, and bribes them to return to Denmark. He arrives on the shores â€Å"naked and . . . alone†. â€Å"Naked† here means that he has only the clothes he stands up in, whatever he can find. Hamlet is now an opportunist. He no longer insists that the conditions be perfect. He will take his opportunity where he finds it. He becomes a fatalist: â€Å"There is a special providence in the fall of a sparrow . . . the readiness is all. † It is when he reaches this stage in his journey that he can do what he wants to do and needs to do. He expresses his love for Ophelia (too late) and is able to take his revenge on Claudius (almost too late).
